Three-dimensional Computer Models

bentley link
  • 3D models are constructed with both surface and solid geometric elements using Bentley Systems MicroStation J and Modeler software. Just about any modeling problem can be readily handled with the effective combination of surface and solid modeling tools.

  • 3D models can be delivered in any of the above file formats. Dimensioned working drawings and cross-sectional slices can be generated, as well.

  • Client input data can come in the form of native DGN, DXF, DWG, or IGES file formats. Or blueprints of plans, elevations and construction details can be supplied if no digital data is available.

Photo-realistic Raytrace Renderings

  • Raytrace renderings can be processed at high resolutions and true color depth.

  • Completely adjustable solar (with settings for fog and haze) and interior lighting, including spot lights
and area lights provide maximum flexibility.

  • Lighting effects on surfaces, such as, shadows, highlights, reflections, transparency, refraction and texture enhance the realism of materials.

  • A radiosity solver for realistic indirect lighting is an option.

  • Extensive libraries of interior and exterior materials (pattern maps) and textures are available.

  • For accurate renderings, complete materials and lighting specifications are needed from the client.

  • Renderings are delivered digitally in many different file formats. High quality inkjet or IRIS prints can be ordered.

Animations: Walkthroughs, Mechanical Motion and Lighting Studies

images of table transforming
  • Just about anything in a 3D model can be set into motion, including: geometric elements, cameras, lights, light settings and material characteristics. Animation techniques used to simulate this motion, such as keyframing, motion along paths, and parametric motion control, can be employed singly or in combination depending on the complexity of the task.

    • Walk-throughs or fly-arounds can be invaluable in communicating overall design integrity. Animation
permits complete exploration of a design space, with precise camera movement and lens adjustments.
With animation, the benefits of a 3D model become fully utilized.

    • Complex (parametric) motion of assembled parts can be simulated. New mechanical designs may be effectively tested before expensive prototypes or physical mockups are constructed. Parts can be checked for 3D interferences using Bentley's Modeler, as well.

  • Solar and artificial lighting studies may be simulated to test the adequacy of the lighting design.

    • Light intensity, color and position can be changed over time.

    • Solar light can be calculated for global position, for the time of day, and for day of the year.
Settings for cloudiness and air quality make for more realistic natural lighting.

  • Animation studies can be compiled, edited, and recorded onto SVHS or VHS tape; or they can be burned
onto CDs. See non-linear video editing below.

Panoramic Viewing of Rendered Models

  • A panoramic view of a design space can be rendered in MicroStation in a fraction of the time it would take to render an animation with a similar objective.

  • Panoramas may be viewed in Netscape Navigator or Internet Explorer browser software. With the help of MGISoft's ZOOM viewer, available free from www.mgisoft.com, easily downloaded panoramic files can be be viewed and user-manipulated without the use of CAD software.

  • Panoramic views, each from different camera position in a design space, can be linked together to simulate the mobility of a walk-through. Zoom control enhances the experience.

Multiple animation clips
  • With the help of a DPS Perception Video Recorder and Video Action NT (DPS) non-linear editing software, we at CADinteriors are able to:

    • Assemble and edit animation clips, or still images, into an informative and persuasive video presentation. Short animations can be combined with still images to create a cost effective multimedia tool.

    • Add audio, in the form of descriptive narration, and background music. Describe your images, add information and create an aesthetic context.

    • Special effects, and multiple video tracks with alpha channels help make possible a sophisticated presentation.

  • The resulting videos, in the form of AVI files, can be recorded to SVHS or VHS tape (NTSC or PAL). Or the AVIs can be burned onto CDs.

Raster Image Editing

  • Post-render editing of 3D model images is accomplished using Satori Film FX 64, an object based, resolution independent editor. Functionality includes:

    • The addition of text, and many different types of image manipulation, including: color
correction, contrast, sharpening, cropping, cloning, special effects, etc.

    • The ability to handle very large, high resolution images easily.

    • Image Compositing.

    • Texture map creation.
